Welcome to ORAN !
Those who visit Algeria often make their way to Oran, a city renowned as the safest in the country. While many come for its seaside charm and vibrant nightlife, Oran has much more to offer—including an incredibly rich cultural heritage that can fill a good portion of your stay.
If your journey through Algeria takes you west, you’ll travel about 430 km from the capital, Algiers, along the Mediterranean coast before reaching the stunning city of Oran; Algeria’s premier seaside destination.
Today, Oran attracts the largest number of tourists in the country. In summer, its beaches are as crowded as those on the northern shores of the Mediterranean. Hotels thrive here, restaurants abound, and the city buzzes with energy year-round.
Despite its reputation for sun and nightlife, Oran’s true appeal extends far beyond beaches and parties. The city holds some of the country’s most fascinating historical treasures starting with the Sacred Heart Cathedral, now converted into a public library. Oran’s mosques are architectural marvels, with Sidi El Houari Mosque, Ben Othman Mosque, La Perle Mosque, and Pasha Mosque being the most stunning.
After 300 years of Spanish rule and decades of French colonization, Oran is filled with unmissable historical landmarks. Spend a day exploring Fort Lamoune, Santa Cruz Fort, and Châteauneuf.
End your day at 1st November Square, with its beautiful views of the theater and city hall. You’ll also find the locals exceptionally friendly—your stay will be enriched by encounters in both the modern city and the winding alleys of the Casbah.
About Our School
National Polytechnic School of Oran - Maurice Audin (ENPO-MA)
The École Nationale Polytechnique d'Oran-Maurice Audin (ENPO-MA), commonly referred to as ENP d’Oran, is a prestigious engineering grande école. Its mission is to provide higher education, scientific research, and technological development by training engineers across various scientific and technical disciplines. The engineering programs are built on strong research centers and experienced teaching teams.
After three years of study at ENPO-MA (following two years of preparatory classes in CPST), graduates earn the title of State Engineer (equivalent to a Master's degree). Opportunities are also available to further specialize with a Master’s degree or pursue a Ph.D.
Historical Background
- 1970: Founded on December 1, 1970) as the École Normale Supérieure d'Enseignement Polytechnique d'Oran (ENSEP), under the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research. Established as part of an Algeria-UNESCO collaboration to train technical secondary school teachers, it initially operated within the University of Oran until relocating to its current campus in 1972.
- 1984: Renamed the École Normale Supérieure de l'Enseignement Technique d'Oran (ENSET) on August 18, 1984, expanding its role across all levels of national education.
- 2008: Restructured as the École Normale Supérieure d'Enseignement Technologique (ENSET) on July 14, 2008, becoming an independent institution outside the university system.
- 2012: Adopted its current name, École Nationale Polytechnique d'Oran (ENP Oran), on October 29, 2012.
- 2017: On its 47th anniversary, the school was renamed in honor of mathematician and Algerian Revolution ally Maurice Audin, becoming the École Nationale Polytechnique d'Oran Maurice Audin (ENPO-MA) under Ministerial on February 7, 2017.
ENPO-MA stands as a cornerstone of Algeria’s engineering education, combining academic excellence with a legacy of innovation and national service.
